About Us

The name AKSARA has Eastern Indian origins and means "Syllable of Sound". AKSARA is presently a seven woman auditioned, a cappella ensemble from Southern New Hampshire and has been together since 1998. Their enchantingly expressive harmonies and variation in repertoire and instrumentation bring the listener to a place of composed peacefulness; an experience not an event.

AKSARA's vision is of a world in which healing, understanding, compassion, and intentional living is embraced globally. It is our intention to help manifest this vision through music and sound healing.

Who is AKSARA?

Their individual professions and involvements are as varied as their personalities and repertoire pieces. Among the seven women you will find a computer programmer, a social worker, a speech pathologist, an educational mentor, a professional musician/ astrologer, an editor/writer/poet and our resident professional pet caregivef and human nurturer. Victoria Schneider, a performing member of AKSARA, is also the artistic director. To learn more about each individual member, please visit our Member Bios page.

Since June 24, 1998, AKSARA has graced many audiences with their healing sounds and each time people have commented that they leave the concert rejuvenated, peace-filled, and cocooned in heavenly sound.

Their music has been used locally and nationally in hospice programs and support groups and AKSARA is humbled to know that the sounds they create, the melodies and harmonies they sing serve as "spiritual mid-wifery" to those about to leave this dimension and gently pass on into the next.

Just recently they learned of a woman whose mother had passed away. The woman was bereft beyond words; literally she could not listen to the radio, watch television or speak with other people. The only thing that brought her comfort was AKSARA's CD, "You Are with Me". Stories like this one continue to call AKSARA forward in song.

Then there's the playful side of AKSARA, humorously entertaining audiences with songs like "Caffeine Blues" by Ruth Huber and their variation of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"... they believe that there are many ways to bring wholeness to mind, body and spirit... laughter is one of their favorite ways.
